Established in 1981, MacNeil/Lehrer Productions is an independent television production company founded by the news anchors Robert MacNeil and Jim Lehrer. It produces the PBS NEWSHOUR, as well as award-winning news and public affairs programs for PBS, commercial networks, and cable distribution.

For thirty years, millions of Americans have turned to MacNeil/Lehrer Productions for high-caliber, non-partisan reporting that has made the PBS NEWSHOUR one of the most trusted news programs in television.

Liberty Media Corporation
In 1994, Liberty Media Corporation purchased a two-thirds share in MacNeil/Lehrer Productions. Liberty Media owns interests in a broad range of electronic retailing, media, communications and entertainment businesses, such as QVC, Provide Commerce, Backcountry.com, BUYSEASONS, Evite, Expedia, the Starz group (including its subsidiaries Atlanta National League Baseball Club Inc. and TruePosition Inc.), and SIRIUS XM Radio Inc., as well as minority equity investments in Time Warner Inc. and Live Nation.
