Established in 1981, MacNeil/Lehrer Productions is an independent television production company founded by the news anchors Robert MacNeil and Jim Lehrer. It produces the PBS NEWSHOUR, as well as award-winning news and public affairs programs for PBS, commercial networks, and cable distribution.

In 1994, Liberty Media Corporation purchased a two-thirds share in MacNeil/Lehrer Productions.
